On April 8–11, 2025, the 16th edition of the Scientific and Technical Conference “Carbon Materials and Polymer Composites – Science – Industry” took place in Ustroń Jaszowiec. This is one of the most important events in the modern materials industry, which, as every year, gathered leading representatives of the scientific and industrial communities.

The conference could not be complete without experts from Łukasiewicz – Institute of Polymer Materials in Toruń, which again acted as a co-organizer of the event together with the Polish Coal Society, AGH, SITPChem. Dr. Mariola Bodzek-Kochel (scientific committee) and Dr. Ewa Langer (organizing committee) were actively involved in the work of the conference committees.

The conference was also an excellent opportunity to present the results of research projects carried out at Łukasiewicz – IMPIB:

  1. As part of the project “Bioproduct accelerating the decomposition of biodegradable polymeric materials in compost” – POL-KOMP (no. LIDER/48/0247/L-12/20/NCBR/2021) financed by the National Center for Research and Development, a poster entitled “Innovative bioproduct POL-KOMP as a solution supporting PLA biodegradation in composting conditions” was presented, illustrating the results of research on the effect of the bioproduct on the acceleration of polylactide (PLA) biodegradation. The poster met with great interest and won second place in the competition for the best poster. A special stand promoting the project was also prepared for the event, which attracted the attention of not only conference participants, but also hotel guests.
  2. The results of the project “Building boards with the use of secondary raw materials” -REC-WIND (1/Ł-IMPIB/CŁ/2023), co-financed by the President of the Łukasiewicz Center as part of a targeted subsidy, were presented by the head of the project team, Dr. Krzysztof Bajer, in the form of a paper entitled “Polymer composites as an alternative to the management of waste from wind farms”.
  3. During the conference, the project “Development and testing of innovative solutions for the processing of hybrid materials and nanomaterials using artificial intelligence algorithms” – PROMATAI, implemented as part of the Staff Exchanges competition, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, which are part of the European Union Framework Program Horizon Europe, was also widely promoted. Particular attention was drawn to the poster presenting the results of the work from the WP1 Work Package “New Solutions for the Feed Opening Section”. The project coordinator, Volodymyr Krasinskyi, and his team presented the process of designing an intelligent hopper section for a single-screw extruder, from modeling and 3D printing, through experimental studies, to the production of the final component in metal.

The presence of the PROMATAI project at the conference contributed to increasing its recognition in both the scientific and economic community.

During the event, a team of scientists from the Łukasiewicz Paints and Plastics Center – IMPIB also presented three scientific posters focusing on innovative solutions in the field of material protection and ecological functional coatings. The poster “Improvement of resistance of organic binders to weather conditions thanks to pigmentation” was a huge success, winning first place in the competition for the best conference poster.
The authors: PhD Eng. Ewa Langer, Małgorzata Zubielewicz, Grażyna Kamińska-Bach, Bartosz Kopyciński, Leszek Komorowski, Damian Wojda and Matthias Wanner – were honored with prizes and an invitation to a free publication in the renowned journal “Polimery”.

The 16th Scientific and Technical Conference “Carbon Materials and Polymer Composites – Science – Industry” was not only a space for the exchange of knowledge and experiences, but also an excellent opportunity to present the high level of research and innovative solutions created in Łukasiewicz – IMPIB. Numerous awards and distinctions are the best confirmation of the significant contribution of our Institute to the development of modern material technologies.
